(Queen’s Park) – The McGuinty government is closing emergency rooms in rural Ontario. These closures affect residents of Port Colborne, Fort Erie, Petrolia, Wallaceburg and Cornwall. These health care cuts are taking place despite Mr. McGuinty’s promise not to cut the public services Ontarians count on.
During Question Period Progressive Conservative Health Critic, Elizabeth Witmer, pressed the Minister of Health to bring forward a plan to protect patients’ services. The Minister of Health refused to do so.
“The McGuinty government has no plan for rural and small community hospitals,” stated Witmer. “Although there is growing fear and concern in rural Ontario about emergency room closures, the McGuinty government refuses to relieve the worries of Ontarians by releasing a plan to protect patient services.”
